Finding the best way to implement Healthcare 2.0 in hospitals and private practices can be nearly impossible with all the ideas that are coming from different sources. While some find that updating the current system to the Healthcare 2.0 ideology is unlikely in the coming decades, others see it as merely a few years for major overhauls. The main issue that is causing such a varied time table is protecting the sensitive information of patients over such a broad network that has so many possible vulnerabilities.
The idea of Healthcare 2.0 has become the prominent source of discussion for many healthcare leaders. Since the rest of the business world has moved on to diversify their businesses with the growth in technology and communications, many hospitals are struggling to develop software to better manage their in-house accounts. Healthcare 2.0 discussions focus on finding a way to bring the healthcare system out from basic programming and dial-up connections.
There are very few individuals who are actually against the concepts raised with switching and updating systems. The costs would be decreased dramatically and serious redundancies can be taken out of the system all together. Healthcare 2.0 would be the start of a completely new and more efficient style of healthcare. The main issues that hospitals and private practices are having are knowing when to start and what money is going to be used to pay for these expenses.
The sad truth of Healthcare 2.0 is that, in theory, it would only take a few years to bring in high-bandwidth connections, update software, and work out the bugs that would be present with total connectivity. However, most hospitals are struggling to keep from going under and few have the funds to update their systems. Since no hospital boardroom wants to be the first one to dive into unknown waters, time and money is being spent on further planning and trying to gain a feasible time frame for how long this will take.
There is a consensus, however, when it comes to the future of Healthcare 2.0. Security is going to be a huge concern. Patient files contain the most sensitive data that a person can have when it comes to leaks in information. Not only would it contain a large amount of data that can be used for identity theft purposes, but it can also contain data that can be sold to the highest bidder to be used in scandalous ways. Having a stomach pumped or cosmetic surgery would be all too tantalizing for a hacker to steal from a system, let alone internal malevolence. Healthcare 2.0 will have to have one of the most secure systems in the entire Internet, while still allowing access to every doctor and patient.
