Pizza, Beer and Pods Storage

I cannot count the number of times I have helped various friends move, but I can tell you that I wish pods storage was around for every single move. Most of us had to recruit friends to help, because we were starving students at the time. The moves usually involved beer, pizza and a U Haul truck. We usually had to help said friend pack and convince them to throw various things away that just would not fit in the truck. We had the more cerebral task of actually driving the truck in public, after the manual labor of loading everything in a moving truck. I am still flabbergasted by the fact that these companies let regular people with regular drivers licenses drive these HUGE trucks down the road without any training. You hear everything crash down in the back as soon as that truck hits the road, and you know your friend wishes she would have let someone else drive. Who knew you should not just put the TV on a box stacked high on that overstuffed chair? At that precise moment, you all wish there was such a thing as pods storage and you could have left the driving to someone else.
I now pay professional people to move me, which makes my friends and me very happy. It is expensive, though, and you have to have your act together. You can save some money by having everything packed when the movers get there, or pay more and have them do everything. It is a whirlwind of chaos, no matter what you choose. If you decide to pack everything yourself, the movers will arrive and start packing anything they see. After my first professional move, I found a very lightweight, but HUGE box, filled with various shoes that had all been individually wrapped with an enormous amount of paper. Most movers get paid for every bit of packing material they use, as well as the time it takes to do everything. Again, I wish I would have known about pods storage as an option.
I have seen more and more of these pods storage things on the streets of the city.I figured it was for people who did not want to pay for the full monte on the moving spectrum. Then I was personally introduced to the world of pods storage via some friends who needed to move back to the West Coast. We helped pack their kitchen, living room and bedroom in an afternoon. The pods storage unit was curbside just outside their building, so we put most of the things we packed directly into it. Our friends were able to take things downstairs and into the unit at their leisure, while the thing was parked there for a week. It was a very secure cube, with a heavy frame and a huge lock. You would have to have some heavy machinery to run away with that thing. Our friends hired some people to move the heavy furniture and any leftover heavy boxes into the pods storage thing. The pods storage box was picked up by the moving company that owned it, and off their belongings went to California. Our friends did not have to contend with a chaotic day of movers at their apartment, and they did not have to learn how to drive a huge truck. See, pods storage is for grown ups too. You might still have to spring for beer for your friends.
