One of the primary concerns of any webmaster or online entrepreneur is to attract traffic in an effort to convert them to a customer base. One of the better ways to get your messages across to prospective clients is by using a distribution service for your marketing literature. An easy approach to distribute your product news is via an RSS news feed. Otherwise known as Really Simple Syndication, RSS is an XML formatted file that contains the necessary information to share site headlines and top stories. To begin using RSS all that you need is the content you wish to broadcast, and the relevant RSS text file. Also known as Rich Site Summary, RSS is a handy tool when it comes to spreading the latest site information, be it from news sites, post updations on blogs, or other sites where content is fluid and constantly changing.
Now for the key question, why is RSS the preferred way to share news? What are the benefits of RSS over other parallels? RSS answers some of the key issues that site owners dace by making user management easier allowing the site traffic to be updated of site updations in real time. For users, RSS allows a way conveniently access and retrieve the latest from top sites that they have subscribed to. This means that viewers are updated without having to visit individual sites, with a single interface displaying the top news, via a platform called RSS Readers or News Aggregators. The Aggregator varies by the operating system installed, and there are a number of Readers to choose from, most of which are user friendly and best of all free. The popular tools include software to be installed such as FeedReader and NewsGator, and web based Readers such as Google Reader and Bloglines. Using a third party aggregator protects user privacy by not requiring the sharing of email IDs, which are necessary when signing up for newsletters.
Generating the RSS file to be used by an Aggregator is a simple albeit technical process, which requires some basic XML knowledge to define the appropriate XML syntax, and then to this is added the unchanging site indentifying content and the dynamic news items. A typical RSS channel can hold up to 15 items, and on generation and validation it needs to be registered with the various aggregators. With RSS the options are quite endless and publishing a basic RSS feed opens the door to several marketing strategies. Rss feeds can be delivered to your readers not just via PC but even on smart phones or as voice feeds. Email newsletters can also be effortlessly automated using the RSS system. Clearly RSS has transformed the way in which news is shared online. While it has revolutionized the way publishers share information, equally it has made keeping tabs on any site that interests people simple as a click.
