Chemical resistant countertops are used most often in laboratory settings. These countertops are made of a wide variety of materials, all with different capabilities to withstand exposure to various chemical substances.
There are a variety of man-made laminates that act as chemical resistant countertops. Should you require maximum resistance your best bet is likely a phenolic resin or an epoxy resin. Both of these surfaces are top of the line as far as resistance to chemical damage goes.
Phenolic resin is a solid composite material that is fused under both heat and pressure, sealing it. It offers an excellent rating as one of the commercially available chemical resistant countertops. One of its benefits is via its method of construction, it is known for its uniformity throughout. Typically it is sold in 1" thicknesses. The standard color is black, but other colors and patterns are available. For installation, it is field cut with carbide blades and tips.
Epoxy resin chemical resistant countertops are made of molded monolithic epoxy. Again, like phenolic resin chemical resistant countertops, they are known to be uniform throughout and excellently rated for chemical resistance. Typically 1" thick, epoxy resin offers specific molds for contouring of work surfaces and for sink installations. Black is the standard color, but other color choices are available.
If you only need a moderate chemical resistance, Chemsurf laminate or laminated phenolic core will likely do the job. Both of these options offer a moderately lower cost than the more highly rated stronger resistance laminates. Chemsurf is a modified resin surface laminate, while laminated phenolic core is a chemical resistant laminate. Both come on many colors and patterns.
Additionally to be considered are stainless steel chemical resistant countertops. Stainless steel countertops are also conductive which is an added benefit, as is the fact that they are easy to clean. But on the downside, stainless steel countertops can be quite costly.
