Dog is a faithful animal and it can be used for various purposes therefore, people are always curious to know about the dog breeds. Different dog breeds are associated with different ancestral lines. Dog breeds are results from natural selection or through selective dog breeding. For thousands of years the dogs have been selectively breeding. In the selective breeding the same ancestral lines can be bred and sometimes different ancestral lines are bred. When a dog breed is healthy and perfect then breeding is usually done from the same ancestors.
For enhancing the features of a specific breed, different combination of dog breeds are bred. Therefore, dog breeds originate because of the selective dog breeding. The characteristics, nature and functions of a specific breed can be totally different as compare to the other dog breeds.
Different types of dog breeds can be generally categorized as registered dog breeds, rare dog breeds and new dog breeds which are under development. On the functional basis there are seven categories of the dog breeds including; Companion dogs, Guard dogs, Hunting dogs, Pastoral dogs, Sled dogs, Extinct dogs, Hypoallergenic breeds and Police dog breeds.
A companion dog is a pet and it is not used for work or specific tasks. These dogs are friendly by nature therefore, dog lovers keep them as a hobby or for fun.
The dogs which are aimed to provide safety against the unwanted people are known as guard dogs. This dog breed has the feature that they bark to make the owner alert and active. These dogs are trained to attack the suspicious people. The dog breed which is used for hunting purposes is known as hunting dog breed. There are three categories of dog breed including hounds, terriers and gun dogs. For livestock the special dog breeds are there which include pastoral dog breed. One very useful type of dog breeds is the Sled dog breed which is used for pulling the wheel less pastoral dog breed. The dog species which do not longer exist are known as extinct dog breeds. People love to keep dogs because dog is a faithful animal but because of the allergic issues they usually avoid keeping dogs, however, the hypoallergenic dog breeds are for such people. The last category of dog breed is Police dog breed which is used by the police forces for detective purposes.
Therefore, in order to achieve the above functional categories of dog breeds, proper breeding is carried out and special trainings are given to the dogs.
